Medicare, Explained in Plain English — Before Open Enrollment Opens
A free one-hour online workshop for people turning 65, still working past 65, or already on Medicare and wondering whether they got it right. No plan pitches. No pressure. Just clear answers and time for your questions.
Two dates · Thursday, October 8 · Tuesday, October 13
This is an educational event.
No specific plans, carriers, premiums, or benefits will be discussed or recommended, and no plan enrollment takes place at this workshop. Nothing will be sold, and no enrollment forms are handed out or collected.
If you'd like a personal review of your own situation afterward, that is always a separate, no-obligation conversation that you ask for.
The four things people get wrong most often
Enrollment timing
When to enroll in Part A, Part B, and Part D — and how the late-enrollment penalties work, since they follow you for life once they attach.
Advantage vs. Supplement
How the two paths through Medicare are built differently, what each one asks of you, and the questions to ask yourself — explained without jargon and without naming plans.
Working past 65
How Medicare coordinates with an employer health plan, when you can safely delay Part B, and the trap that catches people with small-employer coverage and HSAs.
The calendar
Initial Enrollment, Open Enrollment (October 15 – December 7), Special Enrollment Periods — what each window actually lets you change, and what it doesn't.
Every session ends with open Q&A. Bring whatever's on your mind — questions can be asked out loud or typed in privately.
Save your seat
Both sessions cover the same material. Choose whichever fits your day — you'll get the link by email right after you register, and a reminder the day before.
You're in.
Check your email — the workshop link is on its way. If you don't see it within a few minutes, look in your spam or promotions folder, then add us to your contacts so the reminder lands in your inbox.
Bring your questions. If you'd rather ask something privately, you can type it in during the session or call us at (201) 647-2095.
Dave Heitner
Dave is a licensed insurance agent and the founder of Heits Benefits Group in Tenafly, New Jersey. He has spent his career on the employer-benefits and retirement side of the business, which is where most people first hit the Medicare question — usually while they're still working and nobody has explained how the pieces fit together.
He runs these sessions the way he'd want one run for his own parents: no slides full of plan names, no urgency, and a straight answer when the honest answer is "it depends, and here's what it depends on."

Common questions
Is anything going to be sold to me?
No. This is an educational event, which under Medicare's rules means no specific plans, carriers, premiums, or benefits can be discussed or recommended, no enrollment happens, and no enrollment forms are distributed or collected. If you want a personal review afterward, you ask for it — it doesn't get pushed on you.
Do I have to turn on my camera or speak?
No. Most people just listen. Questions can be asked out loud or typed in privately, whichever you prefer.
Will it be recorded?
The presentation portion is recorded so registrants who can't attend live can watch it. The Q&A is not recorded, so you can ask anything without it ending up on a replay.
I'm not turning 65 yet — is this still useful?
Yes, and it's the best time to come. Most of the expensive mistakes in Medicare are timing mistakes made in the year before someone is eligible.
I'm helping a parent. Can I attend for them?
Of course. Adult children make up a good share of every session. Register under your own name and email.
What do you do with my information?
We use it to send you the workshop link and reminders, and nothing else unless you check the optional box asking us to reach out. We don't sell or share your information. Details are on our Privacy & Compliance page.
Accessibility: If you need an accommodation to participate — captions, a dial-in number instead of video, or materials in large print — call us at (201) 647-2095 (TTY 711) at least 48 hours before the session and we'll take care of it.
